San José is a secluded village in the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata - Níjar, just 30 minutes from Almería International Airport.
The village offers a wide range of good restaurants, local produce in the shops, internet cafes, a really helpful tourist office, a bus service to Almería, skippered yacht charter, padel courts ......
For wild-life enthusiasts and walkers there is a chance to enjoy a break in the Parque Natural with its mountainous terrain and red earth, desert-like features leading down to over 20 miles of unspoilt, quiet sandy beaches.
We know the area very well and can tailor your holiday to include any of the activities offered locally including golf, cycling, horse riding, scuba diving, sailing, wind surfing, kayaking, tennis, padel, skiing, mountain bike hire, walking and sight-seeing tours.
Don’t forget to visit the villages of Níjar (for ceramics and rugs), Rodalquilar, Las Negras, La Isleta del Moro......
Visit the Cabo de Gata website for information about Las Amoladeras visitor’s centre, El Albardinal botanical gardens, and lots more.
Almería – The City and its Shopping, Bars and Restaurants
Almería is a delightful city, merging tradition and modernity. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 9th century BC, it has been home to the Greeks, Romans, Carthaginians, Visigoths, Arabs and Christians, so it is full of history and character.
The people of Almería are the friendliest we have ever encountered in Spain or anywhere else. Stop on any corner in Almería, open a map and within 30 seconds somebody will stop to ask you whether they can help you.
Almería is full of fabulous shops (Mango, Zara, clothes, shoes, bags etc etc) and we can tell you what there is, where it is, when it is open and where to park. Also, the best restaurants and bars don’t tend to be the most obvious and we can tell you where are the best . . . and make a reservation for you, if you want.
Travel and Transport
San José is wonderfully located and provides a terrific holiday destination but it’s also good to get out of the village and explore the region, Andalucía and Spain. We can provide you with advice and help on where to go, when to go and how to get there. If you like, we can help you with your travel arrangements: taxis, car hire, guided tours, trains, buses, flights and Spain’s wonderful Parador network of hotels.
