San José is a gorgeous, secluded coastal village in the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata - Níjar, just 30 minutes from Almería International Airport. It’s very Spanish, so, if you want plenty of “home” familiarities, it might be best to look further along the coast, either way.

New properties tend to be more expensive and can have teething troubles, whilst older properties may need renovation (are you a DIY expert or do you want to spend your holidays catching up with maintenance?). If you’d like a pool, who will manage it, as it needs regular maintenance? Who looks after the property while you’re away? How many bedrooms do I really need? Are your language skills up to explaining to local craftsmen what needs to be done?
